“But on this one will I look; on him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word.” - Isaiah 66:2
Have you ever really considered the Word of God? Have you ever thought about the power, the accuracy, the truth, the wisdom, the prophecies, the absolute ‘perfect-ness’ and the importance of the Word of God?
Because of His Word, people are saved, people are divided, people are tortured and people are killed. At the Word of God, the heavens and the earth were created from nothing.
“By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”
– Hebrews 11:3
What unimaginable power there is in the Word of God! What a privilege we have when we open the Bible and read that Word. It is very important to our understanding to realize that the Bible does not contain God’s Word, but the Bible IS God’s Word! This is why we can know with certainty that only the Bible, and no other book, is inerrant, inspired, infallible and the authoritative word of God, free from errors and contradictions.
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” – 2 Timothy 3:16-17
So why does the Bible contain all we need for life and godliness and why does it supersede any other book ever written?
The Bible has an internal unity that far surpasses that of any other book in history. It is comprised of sixty-six books written by an extremely diverse group of forty authors, ranging from a king to a shepherd. The authors include a tax collector, a doctor, a poet, a general, a prime minister and a building contractor. Not only do these writers come from diverse backgrounds, but the time span which the Bible was written in stretches over fifteen hundred years and are comprised of three different languages. Yet there is no contradiction and the same message runs through all the books. Neither has any archaeological discovery ever contradicted a single Bible reference. That brings us to prophetic accuracy in the Bible…
About 27 percent of the Bible contains prophecy and it is one of the great proofs of its exclusive divine origin. The Bible has a total accurate prediction of future events up to some end-times prophecy and the second coming of Christ (which still has to happen). Furthermore, the Biblical text is far more accurately preserved than any other text of ancient history and there are far more New Testament manuscripts copied, with far greater accuracy and far earlier dating, than any other secular classic from antiquity.
Every single word and sentence is divinely inspired and straight from the heart of God!
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” – Hebrews 4:12
In churches worldwide, false teachings have crept in unnoticed because people do not read and know their Bibles. God’s Word provides us with guidelines for holy and set-apart living, yet it’s often being traded for social morality. The Word is clear about sin and righteousness, yet homosexuality, evolution, marriage and governmental justice has all become debatable issues within many churches. The Scriptures condemn idolatry and yet thousands of churches are embracing mysticism and inter-religious dialoging. It is time for Christians to, once again, take the entirety of God’s Word as absolute truth.
“The entirety of Your word is truth.” - Psalm 119:160
God is very serious about His Word, even more so than about His Name!
“For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.” - Psalm 138:2
All too often we forget who God is and that His Word is to be reverently feared.
“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” - Matthew 10:28
Have you ever felt lifeless and depressed? Jesus Himself said:
“It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ “ - Matthew 4:4
Have you ever wondered about what is truth and what not? Jesus said:
“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” – John 17:17
The Word of God is all we have as a true foundation, so let’s not bring judgment on ourselves by either taking away or adding to it through our own ignorance or pride.
“lean not on your own understanding” - Proverbs 3:5
“Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.” –Proverbs 30:5-6
Find yourself a good Bible translation (we recommend the New King James or the King James version) and read it every single day. Obey what you read and God will never let you down!
“But He said, More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” – Luke 11:28
“But He answered and said to them, My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.”
–Luke 8:21
Let everyone who claims to be a believer in Jesus Christ, take His Word seriously. Let us tremble in humble and obedient reverence at every Word of God! In the book of Nehemiah we read that when Ezra read the book of the Law to Israel they went away greatly rejoicing...
“because they understood the words that were declared to them.” - Nehemiah 8:12
May you start your year greatly rejoicing as you read and obey God’s Word daily.
In Christ,
